Why Halifax is the ideal place for Leeds professionals to rent

Halifax is a bustling minster town in West Yorkshire, located to the south-west of Bradford and Leeds and the north of Huddersfield.

Home to the cloth industry since the 15^th century, many of the town’s beautiful weaving mills are still standing but have now been converted into contemporary apartments and modern office spaces.

An easy commute

If you work in Leeds city centre and live in Halifax, you’ll have a comfortable and straightforward daily commute.

Trains regularly run directly between Halifax and Leeds city centre railway stations, and the fastest journeys take just 30 minutes.

The trains run from early in the morning ‘til late at night, so you can easily plan your working day and enjoy a night out in Leeds with your friends or colleagues while still being able to get home quickly on the train.

It’s also worth noting that you can get a direct train to Manchester too, in case you need to head there for work or pleasure.

If you prefer to travel by car, the journey to Leeds from Halifax takes around half an hour, depending on the traffic; Halifax is located approximately four miles from the M62 motorway.

For those who prefer to travel by bus, the journey takes longer than when you drive yourself, but you can sit back and relax. The 508 service regularly runs between Halifax bus station and Park Row in Leeds city centre.

There’s so much to do in Halifax

Halifax is a lovely town, and you’ll find all your usual entertainment options here — there’s a wide selection of pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants, to get you started.

When it comes to culture and the arts, there’s a large cinema where you can enjoy all the latest releases, and a selection of great theatres to visit such as the Victoria and the Viaduct.

The music scene is big in Halifax too and, if you’re a music lover, you’ll find there’s no shortage of vinyl shops or local gigs to attend. Interestingly, Ed Sheeran was born in Halifax and then moved to Hebden Bridge as a child — a small town just down the road. His family later moved to Suffolk.

If you love shopping, then you’ll love Borough Market — a covered Victorian market that’s still going strong. It’s worth a visit just to see the building itself, but the market is open Monday to Saturday, 9 AM ‘til 5 PM.

If sport is more your thing, then Halifax won’t disappoint on that front. The town is home to Halifax RLFC and F.C. Halifax Town, plus many other smaller clubs you can join or support.

If you’re more into walking, the People’s Park and Ogden Water Country Park & Nature Reserve are great local places to get some fresh air.

The town is an inspiration

As a young professional, there’s much to inspire you in Halifax. Take the gibbet, for example.

Years before the use of the guillotine was encouraged by Joseph-Ignace Guillotin in France, Halifax in England was using a version known as a ‘gibbet’.

A full-size non-working replica of the Halifax Gibbet now stands proudly on the spot of the original, with a commemorative plaque which names the 52 people known to have lost their heads to the device.

Grim as this example is, Halifax has clearly always been an excellent birthplace for forward-thinking and innovation.
