A little history of Burley

While Burley was mentioned as far back as 1195, it was during the late Industrial Revolution when the village really grew in prominence. Remnants of the original village are still visible around Burley Lodge and at the junction of Haddon Road and Burley Road. Towards the end of the 19th century several mills were built in the area along the River Aire and housing was built for the mill workers.
