Keeping with it: Leeds is great post-graduation

There’s no doubt that Leeds is one of the hottest university cities to live in the UK. Providing night life, shopping, culture, and some of the best educational facilities in the world, the city is regularly featured as one of the top cities in Europe.

With that in mind however, Leeds is also a pretty great place when it comes to a post-graduation life.

With fantastic post-graduation house share rental options, including in areas such as Headingley, Burley, Meanwood, Harehills, and of course the city centre, there’s a reason why so many people choose to stay in Leeds after university has finished.

But aside from all the great living opportunities, what does Leeds have to offer post graduates?

Great jobs

Okay, perhaps this should be one of the most obvious and necessary reasons to stay, but it’s true, Leeds really is great for jobs.

In fact, at the start of the year Leeds City Council launched a growth strategy to help the city’s bid to be the 2023 European Capital of Culture.

At the time, Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council said:

“Leeds is enjoying a period of unprecedented prosperity and growth, with a vibrant, successful and resilient economy filled with innovation and enterprise.

“But it’s crucial that the city as a whole benefits from that success and that the people of Leeds remain at the heart of how we work with businesses and developers, both now and in the future.”

The digital jobs market is also one of the largest in the country, second only to Manchester outside of London.

Great out-of-city attractions

Living in the centre of Leeds is absolutely fantastic, but every now and again it’s great to get out of the centre and really enjoy some of the beautiful greenery that Yorkshire has to offer.

Located just a couple of miles outside the centre, Temple Newsom is a great day out and lets visitors enjoy a sprawling landscape created by renowned landscaper, Capability Brown.

Aside from a tour of the Tudor-Jacobean house itself, built between 1500 and 1520, the estate also features The Home Farm, which is an open farm located just next to the house.

To the north of the city there is also Tropical World Leeds, Harewood House, and if you fancy venturing a little further afield, the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Great summer events

Often during the summer time students tend to venture home to work summer jobs and generally get reacquainted with family and friends.

This really is a shame however, as every summer Leeds hosts a plethora of wonderful, vibrant, and (often) free events.

This summer for example, there’s the just-gone Leeds Pride Festival, Leeds Festival, Leeds Carnival, Leeds West Indian Carnival, and Leeds Beer week.

Just outside of Leeds there is also Art in the Park, Freedom Festival, and The Coastline Festival in Whitby.
