Morley has long been regarded as a handy property rental location for anyone working in Leeds city centre and boasts pleasant parks, a good range of cafes and restaurants, and a lovely shopping area. Just five miles away from the city centre, the market town of Morley is a pleasantly short trip by road or rail from your place of work.
With regular trains to and from Leeds, and an excellent bus service, it is often considered an affordable and pleasant town for anyone who likes Leeds and works in the centre, but perhaps prefers a quieter location for relaxing when they get home from work.
Of course, Morley is a town in its own right. With a population approaching 50,000 for Morley and the surrounding areas, it’s no surprise that there’s lots to see and do.
A short history of Morley
This delightful market town can be dated as far back as the doomsday book although, architecturally speaking, you are more likely to come across Victorian and Georgian properties in the area. Of particular note is Morley Town Hall, listed Grade 1 in order to preserve this fine example of architecture from its time.
Thanks to the many historical buildings in the town, it’s often possible to find attractive conversions, apartments, and even freehold homes with fine proportions, older style elegance and period features to buy and rent. We have a range of houses and flats to let in Morley available on our site.
To do in Morley
Present day Morley is a vibrant place to be. With a fine range of high street shops and a delightful collection of independent stores, Morley has enough to offer for anyone who doesn’t feel the pull of nearby Leeds. With three large supermarkets there is always somewhere to pick up the groceries without heading into the city centre, too.
Morley used to be home to Orbit, one of the most famous nightclubs in the country, but since it shut its doors ten years ago, late night revellers have tended to head to Leeds City centre to get their dancing fix. This makes Morley a lively, if relatively calm place to live.
There are plenty of great pubs and bistros in Morley with a great atmosphere, but if you want it late and loud, Leeds is never far away!
