Where to eat in Headingley

We’ve all been there — you get home from a long day of lectures at uni or work, and the last thing on earth you want to do right then is cook dinner. Luckily, if you live in Headingley, you have plenty of choice when it comes to takeaway food or eating out — and all on your doorstep! Not only that, but the choice is really varied — whether you and your housemates are in the mood for gorgeous Italian food, delicious Indian fayre, good old fish and chips, or a quick kebab meal — Headingley has you covered.

The majority of Headingley’s restaurants are located on or around Otley Road, so if you can’t decide what you fancy before you head out, you know exactly where to go to browse what’s on offer and find your evening meal. There are some wonderful cafes around Headingley too for a light bite at lunchtime or a freshly brewed coffee at any time — these are located in the same areas as the restaurants.

Restaurants in Headingley

Friends toasting and eating Italian food together

If you’re in the mood for wood-fired pizza and scrumptious Italian ice cream, you won’t be disappointed by a visit to Ecco Pizzeria. For a classic Italian menu featuring pasta, risotto and pizza alongside antipasti starters, you need to head to Giorgio’s.

Headingley isn’t short of excellent Italian eateries, and the award-winning Salvo’s is one not to be missed. Head here for a meal with friends and housemates or a romantic meal for two but remember to book ahead as it’s busy year-round. The Salvo’s Salumeria next door is open in the daytime and combines a café with a stunning delicatessen of Italian delicacies.

Greek food can be found next door at the Santorini Bar and Grill and at The Olive Tree up the road, and if Thai is what you’re after, you’re spoilt for choice with three great options — there’s Sukhothai, which features South East Asian wood panelling and statues for a visual feast, and Jino’s Thai Café just around the corner for a more laidback dining experience. Then there’s the cosy Thai Sabai restaurant just around the corner, too.

If you’re a meat lover, you might want to head to Red’s True Barbecue and experience one of their popular Barbecue Trays or a juicy burger. There’s options for vegetarians too, so you can all dine together.
