A fashionable address for over 200 years, Far Headingley grew from a rural agricultural village to become one of Leeds’s urban villages, attracting the prosperous mill owners of the day. It now attracts a whole array of people who want to live in a lovely yet convenient area.
Spinning Acres marks a new phase in the evolution of Far Headingley as a prime residential location with one of the best postcodes in the Leeds area and one which, thanks to its history, makes it well placed to access a superb range of things to do, places to go, and things to see.
As well as being an oasis in the city, regardless of age, you’ll never grow bored at Spinning Acres thanks to a wide selection of local entertainment options — whatever your interests.
Film
Just along the road from Spinning Acres is the Cottage Road Cinema. Widely acclaimed as a small, iconic cinema hosting a mix of art house films, Hollywood blockbusters, and even documentaries. With its first screening back in 1912, it is still open most days of the week and is believed to be one of the oldest surviving cinemas in Britain.
It is certainly one of the last suburban cinemas in Leeds.
Sports
If you’re a sporting fan, particularly cricket or rugby league, you’ll be spoilt for choice as you live just a short way away from the Headingley Carnegie Stadium – home to the Leeds Rhinos.
Headingley is also famous for the cricket and proudly features one of England’s most impressive cricket grounds. It is home to Yorkshire County Club and it is a regular venue for the English cricket team.
If you fancy training for a triathlon then you need to head to the nearby Boddington Playing Fields which are home to the Brownlee Centre — the UK’s first purpose-built triathlon training site, named after Yorkshire’s famous Brownlee brothers. Here you can sign up to Brownlee Centre Breeze sessions which are available for all ages and abilities.
Then there’s the sports park at Weetwood — a superb facility and although owned by the University of Leeds, it can be used by anyone. There’s also Beckett Park on the edge of Far Headingley – a great reason to fill up the picnic basket in the warm weather, and the Meanwood Valley Nature Reserve nearby too with its bogs, heath, grassland, becks and a pond – as well as a lovely little café.
